I fly a lot—several times most weeks—and I’ve been doing it for over 20 years. You’d think I’d have it mastered by now. I haven’t.
If you knew how many flights I’ve missed… and not because of traffic or meetings running over. No, I miss them for the daftest reasons.
Like the time I was at the next gate, tucked in a quiet corner doing breathing exercises. I had loads of time. Next thing I know—missed the flight.
But the worst one? That was just this past November.
I was flying with the kids to Scotland to see their Grandma. It was the last time they’d see her. A hugely important journey. We were early. No stress. Everything calm.
We even had time to go to the supermarket for snacks. I kept thinking, “We’re grand. Loads of time.”
Then my daughter said, “Papa, shouldn’t we check the screen?”
“Relax, we’re fine, loads of time”
Then we wandered into the electronics shop. Again: “Papa… have you looked at the screen yet?”
Still: “Calm down, It’s all good, everything under control.”
Finally I checked the board: Gate Closed.
We missed it.
The aftermath? 2,000 euros on new flights. & A full day of precious time with my mum lost
That’s the Superactive Life for you. Sometimes being “super active” means missing what’s right in front of you.

The Superactive Lesson:
When we’re constantly in motion, our attention gets scattered. Presence matters more than productivity. Ironically, my “mindful” breathing exercise made me less aware of what was happening around me. True mindfulness isn’t just meditation—it’s staying aware in the moment, with the moment.

What about you?
Ever missed something important because your superactive brain was off somewhere else?
